Wax is a local characteristic industry in Fushun, Liaoning Province, China, with a long history of selling raw materials. The local government saw an opportunity to create new products for the public through industrial design services. With the advent of electric lighting, candles have lost their primary function, now mainly used in ritual activities. However, the demand for children's birthday candles remains significant, making them a perfect canvas for cultural product design.

The "Wonderful Travel" candle set captures the essence of children's imaginations, drawing inspiration from beloved animation stories, picture books, and popular themes such as space exploration, ice and snow, Jurassic dinosaurs, and marine science. The set features six adorable characters, each with their own unique personality and role in the space travel adventure. From the brave astronaut to the curious inventor, these candles bring the magic of storytelling to life.

Creating these candles involved a meticulous process. The characters were designed and printed in 3D, and grinding tools were made using silica gel. Finally, liquid wax was poured into the molds and cooled with cold water. The finished product combines 58 types of paraffin, beeswax, and soybean wax to achieve the desired texture and quality.

The "Wonderful Travel" candle set comes in two different packaging options, each carefully designed to enhance the overall birthday experience. The candles themselves measure 55mm x 55mm x 85mm, perfect for little hands to decorate and play with. The set also includes birthday hats and other accessories to complete the space travel theme.

Yong Zhang and his team, including Menghua Wang, Zeyu Xu, Xinlu Wang, Yunhao Wang, Yu Jiang, Jianzhong Zhu, Xinyu Zhang, Rongren Li, Yining Chen, Hongjie Yu, and Jing Li, worked tirelessly on this project. Their dedication and creativity have resulted in a truly unique and enchanting design.

The "Wonderful Travel" candle set not only ignites the imagination but also caters to the purchasing psychology of mothers, who are the main buyers of children's candles. With its captivating design and attention to detail, this set is sure to be a hit among children and parents alike.

From January to July 2019, in Fushun, Liaoning Province, China, Yong Zhang and his team brought this project to life. Their research and understanding of the market demand for children's candles, coupled with their technical expertise, allowed them to overcome various challenges and create a product that stands out in the industry.

The "Wonderful Travel" candle set has been recognized for its excellence and creativity, receiving the Bronze A' Design Award in the Baby, Kids, and Children's Products Design category in 2020. This prestigious award honors designs that demonstrate ingenuity and resourcefulness, incorporating best practices in art, science, design, and technology. By enhancing the quality of life and sparking joy in children's celebrations, this design truly makes the world a better place.
